The 5 Pillars of Leadership

Summary

Companies often promote people to managerial positions without giving concrete information about what is expected of them.

We want to invite you to ask yourself the following question:

When your company gives you a leadership role, what are they asking of you?

  1. Give Direction: A leader must have a vision of  where the organization is going and direct people to align on objectives, values and priorities.
  2. Develop People: A leader needs to take advantage of day to day opportunities to extend and develop people.
  3. Be a Role Model: How will you be a reference for the type of  attitudes and behavior you want to encourage in your team.
  4. Serve others: Your job is to create the conditions for your team to do their best work.
  5. Inspire: To help your colleagues put their hearts into their work, you will need to help them connect their work to the sources of meaning in their lives.

How do you want to construct and reinforce these pillars of your leadership?

When they ask you to lead they are asking you to fulfill those five pillars.

Let’s go.

Practice

As indicated in the video, we encourage you to put the five pillars into practice and ask yourself two questions:

  • What am I doing in my day to day with my team in relation to each of these 5 pillars?
  • What do I want to start doing in each of them from now on?
